SHIELDPOLY POLYUREA’S

Shield Crete Services have a range of Polyurea’s, headlined by the ShieldPoly F15 product that is ideal for most applications, and the RBRS system designed specifically for repair of rubber conveyor belts while they are moving.

Polyurea is ideal for heavy-duty water-proofing, bund liners, abrasion resistant coatings, containment, conveyor belt repair, waste water treatment liners, pipes, tank liners, tailings pond liners, and a host of other industrial applications. They are applicable nearly anywhere to protect the vital assets and infrastructure that keep your industry in business.

One of the biggest benefits to the ShieldPoly range is not just the latest formulations providing the best physical properties and excellent spray-ability, but all the polyurea variants, and the hybrids use the same ISO side. Given the ISO (Part A) has a shelf life of 12+ months, but the Resin (B-side) can last for 5+ years, this means less wastage for applicators.

Our Polyurea coatings boast fast curing times, even at temperatures well below 0˚C, as well as insensitivity to humidity. With exceptional physical properties such as high hardness, flexibility, tear strength, tensile strength, chemical and water resistance, there’s sure to be a formulation to suit your assets.

Specification:

We have a range of standard specifications available on request. When specifying Polyurea, there are key elements to consider. Not all polyureas are the same. The performance is highly influenced by the following parameters;

  • Tensile strength – High tensile strength improved puncture and tear resistance, and the higher the tensile capacity, the more resistance to particle abrasion and impacts.
  • Elongation – High elongation is generally better because it allows for higher impact abrasion and resilience against thermal movement. It also helps with particle abrasion resistance when the tensile strength is still high.
  • Purity – Generally, the more pure, the better the UV and chemical resistance. Be careful of cheap products because some people claim purity even though they have 10, 20 or even 40% urethane.
  • Hardness – This isn’t hugely important for Polyurea in most situations. Abrasion resistance is better determined by the tensile and elongation balance for particle abrasion, but resistance against scraping abrasion may be improved by higher hardness.
  • Taber Abrasion – This measure has found to not correlate well with any realistic requirement for abrasion resistance of polyurea. We don’t normally pay much attention to these values but provide them for reference.

BENEFITS:

  • Return to service in 1-24hrs.
  • Long recoat windows.
  • Can be walked on in only a few minutes.
  • Spans joints and cracks so you won’t need to regularly repair/re-point joint sealants.
  • High chemical resistance.
  • Cost competitive with poorer performing epoxies and rubber lining.
  • Faster project completion and return to service than alternatives
  • No harmful VOC’s
  • Prevent hand-up and carry back of bulk materials.
  • Longer lasting than EPDM liners and less leaks.
  • Seamless and can handle significant movement and traffic.

APPLICATIONS:

  • Pipes
  • Tanks
  • Poles
  • Conveyor belts
  • Bund & tailings liners
  • Roof sealing
  • Asbestos containment in-service
  • Transport
  • Dump-truck liners
  • Semi-trailer liners (wheat, gravel, etc.)
  • Heavy-duty flooring
  • Commercial waterproofing
  • Retaining walls
  • Cold storage
  • Secondary containment
  • Munitions / explosives storage
  • Food processing
  • Potable water systems
  • Waste water
  • Screw piling protection
  • Driven piling protection
  • Boats (particularly hulls and decks)

SUBSTRATES:

  • Concrete (ShieldPrime UNI Primer recommended)
  • Steel (ShieldPrime UNI or ShieldPrime SP recommended for high abrasion/impact & cold wall susceptible structures)
  • Stainless Steel (contact us for specific recommendation)
  • Aluminium
  • Wood
  • Fibreglass
  • Plastic
  • Glass

COLOURS:

  • Standard stock colour is unpigmented (almond). Pigments can be added to suit. Note that Polyurea is not colour stable (but it is highly UV stable), which means light colours will turn green and dark colours will whiten over time.

SPECIFIC PRODUCTS:

100% Pure Polyurea

F15

  • ShieldPoly F15 is the general purpose pure polyurea used in the majority of situations. Excellent spray-ability, designed for constant immersion and formulated to ensure excellent wetting and adhesion to concrete and steel substrates. It’s potable water approved and has an excellent combination of physical properties.
  • Commonly combined with woven and non-woven geotextile for liners over damaged concrete bunds or over soil for dams and tailings liners.

RBRS

  • ShieldPoly RBRS is a product specifically design for use as a conveyor belt repair product. It is a pure polyurea with specific caking properties that allow it to be applied to a running conveyor and run through without cracking or flowing too much. It also has tensile strength and elongation that matches well with the conveyor belt itself.
  • Running conveyor belt repair means significant reduction in down time to repair and replace conveyor belts used in mining and other industries.
  • It is specifically designed as a system with ShieldPrime SP for ultimate adhesion to rubber and other difficult substrates.
  • Please contact us for full information.

Hybrid:

HB10

  • ShieldPoly HB10 is a high performance, rapid curing, lower cost alternative, modified PU / Polyurea designed for use on most substrates that do not require the full physical and UV resistance / durability properties of other pure polyureas.
  • It is general purpose and provides a good, lower cost alternative for water proofing, ute tray liners, etc. It can be used in other situations as well, just check with us first.
  • A versatile product with a waterproofing elastomeric and seamless membrane, that performs well in anticorrosion, roofing, tanking, steel, and concrete, and can be used with geotextile liners and many other substrates.
